Little-known places in SP to escape the clichés
A crater millions of years old
Yes, it may sound like a lie, but in the far south of the city, in Parelheiros, is the Crater of Colônia. The geological phenomenon is the result of the impact of a meteorite millions of years ago.
📍 Avenida José Lutzenberger, s/n – Bairro Vargem Grande
Tenondé Porã Indigenous Land
also in Parelheiros, is one of the demarcated Indigenous Lands within the capital and, believe it or not, it is equivalent to 10% of the municipality’s territory. Vivalá offers two expedition options for those who want to get to know the place and the rich Guarani Mbya culture.
Bandeirista House in Itaim Bibi
In the middle of Faria Lima, the avenue that symbolizes São Paulo’s modernity, is another example of the little-known places in São Paulo – the Casa Bandeirista Institute. Standing since the 17th century, the picturesque rammed earth house is on the same site as the Pátio Victor Malzoni building and still stands as an example of old colonial architecture.
📍 Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima, 3477 – Itaim Bibi
An ‘island’ without leaving São Paulo
We know it’s hard to believe, but the southern end of the city really does hold countless secrets. For example, the Ilha do Bororé neighborhood – which, despite its reputation as an island, is a peninsula surrounded by the Billings reservoir.
📍 Estrada das Vieiras, s/n – Bororé
Consolação Literary Passage
Why wait for the pedestrian light to turn green when you can cross the street via an underground passage? Between the sidewalks of the Petra Belas Artes cinema and the Riviera Bar, on Consolação street, is the Consolação Literary Passage. The space is a mixture of a bookstore , an artistic occupation and a real respite from the hustle and bustle of the region.
📍 Rua da Consolação – Consolação
Guarapiranga Sacred Ground
Solo Sagrado opened its doors in 1995 on the banks of the Guarapiranga reservoir. The project of the World Messianic Church of Brazil aimed to create a place that would be comparable to a “Paradise on Earth”. That’s why, today, the space (which is private, but allows visitors) is considered one of the most beautiful places in the middle of the city’s nature and welcomes both religious and non-religious visitors.
avenida Prof. Hermann Von Ihering, 6567 – Jardim Casa Grande
Route Tunnel
Few people know, but it is possible to visit the famous Quartel da Luz – or Mansion of the Route. This is because, among its extensive tunnels that cut through the central region underground, there is one underground museum which has a guided tour.
Avenida Tiradentes, 440 – Luz
Tietê Ecological Park
You may not believe it, but this park is the size of 11 Ibirapuera Parks! Yes, all within the city of São Paulo. In addition, the Tietê Ecological Park is responsible for preserving the fauna and flora of one of the the city’s most important rivers.

Morrinhos Farm
Another remnant of Bandeirista architecture in the city, this time in the city’s North Zone. The house was built in 1702 – the date is marked on the main door of the building – and the tour is part of the city’s ‘Historic Houses’.
📍Rua Santo Anselmo, nº 102 – Jardim São Bento
