The world’s most beloved ogre will leave his swamp and arrive in São Paulo at the Renault Theater starting April 15. With tickets already on sale, the musical promises to transform the stage into a true fairy tale, with the biting humor we’ve come to know.
The show stars established names from the Brazilian music scene. The Wicked duo Fabi Bang and Myra Ruiz will bring Princess Fiona to life. In addition to being Shrek’s romantic partner, she turns out to be an ogre and must discover who she really is.
Tiago Abravanel plays Shrek, with a three-hour makeup process and over 200 prosthetics crafted in London. The iconic talking donkey, meanwhile, is played by comedian and actress Evelyn Castro.
In this plot full of humor and adventure, we follow Shrek and his faithful donkey squire. After his swamp is invaded by magical creatures, the ogre negotiates with the tyrant Lord Farquaad. He is tasked with rescuing the princess trapped at the top of the tower.
Beyond the romance, the story that has won over millions of fans around the world also addresses themes such as acceptance and prejudice in a playful and irreverent way.
What to expect from Shrek – The Musical?
After premiering on Broadway in 2008, the musical has toured the world and hasn’t returned to Brazil since 2013. The new blockbuster promises to maintain the standard of quality already seen in productions such as the Brazilian version of “Wicked, ” which was a box office hit.
The numbers behind this blockbuster production are impressive: in total, there will be 30 actors on stage, with 145 complete outfits and over 940 costume items. Plus 280 pairs of shoes, 57 hats, and 150 wigs. During the show, there are 15 set changes, including a dragon measuring about 9 meters.
There will be 25 musical numbers in the 2026 production, highlighted by the famous and timeless Smash Mouth song “I’m a Believer” from the films. The song will be performed in English, as a tribute to the original work.
