This March 27th is World Theater Day. That’s why we felt it only fair to take a tour of some of the city’s most important concert halls.
If you’re a stage lover, find out a little about some of São Paulo’s theaters.
Bibi Ferreira Theater
Housed in a building dating from 1886, the Bibi Ferreira Theater premiered in 1973 with the show “Donana”. In all, more than 4,500 pieces have passed through.

TUCA Theater
The Theater of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo has existed since 1965. It was the scene of political demonstrations in favor of redemocratization and against the military regime. One of the most recent productions to pass through there was “Low Therapy”, with Antônio Fagundes and Ilana Kaplan in the cast.

Santander Theater
Opened in 2016, the modern Santander Theater occupies space in the same complex as the JK Iguatemi Shopping Center. Since then, it has shown audiences the musicals “We Will Rock You”, “Annie”, “Singin’ in the Rain”, “My Fair Lady”, “Sunset Boulevard” and “The Little Mermaid”.

Arthur Azevedo Theater
Paying homage to the Maranhão poet Arthur Nabantino Gonçalves de Azevedo, this theater has existed since 1952. It was listed in 1992 on the grounds that its structure significantly represents São Paulo’s architecture from the 1950s.

Unimed Theater
The first on the list, Teatro Unimed opened its doors in August 2019. The premiere kicked off a short run of David Bowie’s musical “Lazarus”.

Renault Theater
Formerly the Abril Theater, it hosts some of the city’s most expensive productions. Known as “São Paulo’s home for musicals”, in recent years it has hosted shows such as “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Misérables” and “The Lion King”.

Porto Seguro Theater
With an eclectic program, Teatro Porto Seguro has been operating in Campos Elíseos since 2015. In recent years, he has offered audiences the shows “Cazuza, the Musical”, “Pacto” and “Dogville”. It also hosts concerts by big names in Brazilian music.

Sérgio Cardoso Theater
The Sérgio Cardoso Theater is divided into two rooms. The first hosts a variety of national and international shows, while the other showcases experimental performances, giving space to smaller theater companies.
