Built in 1813 as a large coffee plantation, Fazenda das Três Barras is located in the rural area of Bananal. It was part of the coffee cycle in the Paraíba Valley and was one of the largest producers in São Paulo in the 19th century.
In addition to coffee production, the farm also provided lodging for tropeiros and travelers on the old royal highway. The property was part of the transit route for goods and people between Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.
The farm still belongs to the same family, even after generations. Records show that the first owners are linked to the old Três Barras land grant from the 18th century. However, the most notable figure is Captain Hilário Gomes Nogueira, who hosted the Prince Regent in August 1822.
In addition to attracting visitors from rural elite families and imperial politicians to the farm.
After Dom Pedro’s distinguished visit, Hilário Gomes was inspired by the events of that year and commissioned the construction of another farm in Bananal. Named Fazenda Independência, the site marks the passage of the entourage heading toward São Paulo.
Today, Três Barras remains in the hospitality industry, still welcoming travelers and those curious about the history behind it. Just imagine spending the night in the same place where Dom Pedro slept centuries ago?
The stay of Dom Pedro andJK

Before the historic September 7, 1822, Dom Pedro traveled through various regions until he reached the banks of the Ipiranga River. The then-heir to the Portuguese throne even spent the night at the farm before continuing on the path to independence in the Paraíba Valley.
Decades later, the farm once again welcomed another distinguished figure: Juscelino Kubitschek. Although there are no dated records, the former president’s visit is documented in his traveldiary. A friend of a former owner, Kubitschek used to stay at Fazenda das Três Barras whenever he was in the region.
The bedroom, in fact, remains just as it was during the time of the visits. With all its antique furniture, it is the only room preserved in its entirety, while the other rooms have been adapted over the years.
What to do at Fazenda das Três Barras?

Today, the property maintains its main economic activity as a farm hotel. However, despite its rich history over the years, there are still no guided tour itineraries. But beyond the experience of spending the night in a livingmuseum, in the same room where JK slept, there are other activities on the farm.
The itinerary is that of a typical farm hotel, with the option to go horseback riding or paddle boating on the lake. In addition, Fazenda Três Barras also offers facilities such as tennis courts, a game room, and a soccer field. You can also relax in the pools, showers, wet bar, and water slide, as well as the sauna available for use.
