For the first time in history, Fazenda Imperial is opening its doors for guided tours. The 19th-century estate is located in Mineiros do Tietê, 271 kilometers from the capital, and is renowned for having hosted Emperor Dom Pedro II and his wife, Teresa Cristina.
The 1,200-square-meter mansion, built in the mid-1800s, houses period artifacts, Portuguese frescoes, and preserved facilities. That’s why the new tours offer a chance to immerse yourself in an authentic setting from Imperial Brazil, experiencing a lesson in history, architecture, and coffee culture.
The coffee technology at Fazenda Imperial caught the attention of Dom Pedro II
In 1879, Dom Pedro II visited the region to inaugurate a railroad. As he was passionate about science and technology, the emperor took advantage of the trip to visit the Imperial Farm, which stood out at the time for its cutting-edge agricultural practices.
To welcome the royal entourage, the estate underwent luxurious renovations, such as the installation of a banister imported from France in 1876, which remains intact to this day. Additionally, the farm met a specific requirement of the monarch: the construction of a “bathroom” with running water sourced from a mine.
These architectural details make the site a unique historic farm in São Paulo. But the tour also prompts reflections on the painful past of slavery, since it was the manual labor of enslaved people that sustained the luxury and wealth of the Casa Grande.

How to visit this farm in the interior of São Paulo?
Fazenda Imperial is now owned by sisters Regina and Roselene Carvalho, who have preserved the family legacy since childhood. Recently, they decided to open the estate’s doors to share this treasure with the public.
During the guided tour, visitors explore the 22-room mansion, the outdoor areas, and the former slave quarters. An expert shares details about the residents’ daily lives and also recounts the story of Seu Pedro, an enslaved man who remained on the farm after abolition. He lived there until the age of 105 and even met the emperor in person.
The cuisine is another highlight of the visit. After all, the tour includes breakfast and a tasting of coffee produced on the farm itself, connecting visitors to the region’s rural roots.
Tours are held only on specific dates. The administration posts the official schedule on social media, so be sure to follow the updates to secure your spot on this journey through time.
