Fazenda do Pinhal is a tour full of charm and history in the interior of São Paulo. The 19th-century property still preserves its original structures, offering a glimpse into the spaces that contributed to the state’s power during the coffee cycle.
Located in São Carlos, 240 kilometers from the capital, it is one of the oldest farms in São Paulo. In addition to reviving memories of coffee, a visit to Pinhal also guarantees contact with nature and country cuisine, making it an excellent option for a weekend getaway.

Fazenda do Pinhal: architecture and history in a period drama setting
The roots of the property date back to the late 18th century, but its imposing mansion was only built in 1831, during the coffee boom in the region. Built using the rammed earth technique, the house was the residence of the family of Antônio Carlos de Arruda Botelho, the Count of Pinhal.
The space retains its original architecture to this day, with a rare collection dating back to the count’s time: European furniture, portraits, old documents, and emblazoned crockery that has survived for more than nine generations. All of this gives the feeling of being in a period setting, like a Brazilian version of Downton Abbey.
In addition, state preservation agencies and IPHAN (the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage) have listed the complex, which encompasses much more than the main house. When walking around the property, visitors will find European gardens, drying yards, an orchard, and the old slave quarters, which bear the marks of slavery in Brazil. For this reason, the tour also encourages reflection on the work and resistance of the enslaved people who passed through there.
