This week, we published the curious announcement that a island paradise is for sale in Guarujá for a mere R$4 million. But fortunately, you don’t need to own a private paradise to enjoy the beauties of Guarujá! That’s why we’ve decided to bring you a short guide to what to do in Guarujá.
The seaside town is a favorite among São Paulo residents, both for its beautiful beaches and its proximity to the capital. After all, it’s only 100 km away, or about 1.5 hours by car, making it perfect for a getaway to see the coast.
Guaruja’s coastline is 22 km long, spread over 27 beaches. Of these, you’ll find options for all tastes, from the urbanized to the more deserted and “wild”. So, here’s a guide to Guarujá’s main beaches and attractions, as well as the best ways to travel there!
What to do in Guarujá (SP)?
Enseada Beach, the most famous in the city
Enseada Beach, for example, is the longest and most popular in the city. Over 5 km long, it offers complete infrastructure and is one of the city’s kiosk and restaurant hotspots . Towards the end of the beach, you’ll find boat trips, speedboats, banana boats and other water leisure options.
In addition to all this, Praia da Enseada is home to Acqua Mundo, one of the largest aquariums in Latin America.
Tombo Beach, the most sustainable in São Paulo
Similarly, Praia do Tombo is the perfect tip for those who want to enjoy the sea with good infrastructure. The beach, which is a record holder for the Blue Flag seal of sustainability, has clear waters and perfect waves for surfing.
It also stands out for its lively social life. This is because its shore offers several bars and kiosks, as well as a cycle path and spaces for practicing sports on the sand.
To the left of the beach you’ll also find the Mirante do Morro das Galhetas (or Glass Lookout), which offers an incredible panoramic view of the coastline. And to top it all off, you can take your photos on a cute swing that says “Eu amo Guarujá” (I love Guarujá), to make your visit forever.
Eden Beach, a natural paradise in the heart of Guarujá
Meanwhile, Eden Beach is the place for those who want to get in touch with nature. Because it is less urbanized, it lives up to its name as a haven of tranquillity for tourists and locals alike. It can be reached via a short 5-10 minute trail, which starts at Rua Eden. The path is steep and requires attention, but we guarantee it’s worth it!
Once there, you’ll find an unspoiled haven of Atlantic Forest. With its white sands and crystal-clear waters, it’s the perfect place for a peaceful dip, far away from the hustle and bustle of the more urban beaches.
How to plan your trip?
As it’s just over an hour from São Paulo, you can visit Guarujá on a day trip. But if you want to enjoy the city and visit the beaches at your leisure, we recommend staying there for at least a weekend.
For those who go by car, a great benefit is the freedom of movement during the visit. Access is via the Anchieta/Imigrantes and Cônego Domênico Rangoni high ways, and the toll is R$54 (one way).
Meanwhile, the bus is a good option for those who don’t want to stress about the road. Currently, the companies Rápido Brasil and Ultra run the route at R$56.40 each way leaving from the Jabaquara Terminal to the Guarujá Bus Station. Buser, on the other hand, offers trips starting at R$29.90, from Santos-Imigrantes Metro Station to Pousada Mirante Guarujá. The journey takes around 1h30.
