The Ipiranga Museum turns Independence Day into an outdoor party! Next Monday, September 7, “Museu em Festa 2026” will take over the museum’s esplanade, gardens, and indoor galleries, with free programming accessible to all audiences.
The event has been held since 2017 to celebrate the Museu Paulista ’s anniversary, but this edition will be even more special. After all, it wraps up the institution’s 130th-anniversary celebrations, which have been going on since last year!
If you still don’t know what to do over the holiday, mark your calendars: “Museu em Festa” will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring concerts, dance classes, workshops, capoeira demonstrations, and free exhibitions.
“Museu em Festa 2026” Schedule
The Ipiranga Museum offers an eclectic lineup of attractions, organized in partnership with SESC. On the esplanade, the celebrations begin with the show *ACORDA!*, by Grupo Esparrama (10 a.m.), which uses the facade of the landmark building as the backdrop for an outdoortheater performance.
In the afternoon, the circus performance R.U.A. (1:30 p.m.) features magic and balancing acts using recycled objects, and the Extraordinary Ball of Figures (2:30 p.m.) will include masks, giant puppets, and live music. DJ Hum (5:00 p.m.) will close out the event, transforming the esplanade into a dance floor with sets of black music, hip-hop, jazz, and samba-rock.
Meanwhile, Espaço Pensador kicks off the program with CORALUSP (11 a.m.) and a repertoire of popular songs. Next, the Afro-Brazilian Choral Group for Seniors (1 p.m.) revives chants of African origin, concluding with the “Dance! Brasilidades” class (2:30 p.m.), which celebrates the diversity of Brazilian rhythms.
Free workshops and exhibitions!
If you enjoy getting your hands dirty, we recommend the Terraço Nazaré. There, there will be workshops on watercolor painting, screen printing, ceramic embroidery, collage, and photography for children and adults! In addition, the space will host “Game Vivências: Sankofa Arcade Trilogy,” featuring Afrofuturist games with Black women as protagonists.
Inside the museum, you’ll be able to visit three exhibitions for free: “Imagined Pasts, ” “Understanding the Museum,” and “A History of Brazil,” which includes the Salão Nobre and Pedro Américo’s painting “Independence or Death!”
The event also offers accessibility features, such as audio description, sensory backpacks, an alternative communication board, and a comfort and regulation space. It’s recommended that you bring a reusable bottle or cup to the hydration stations, wear comfortable clothing, and apply sunscreen.
