The museum houses more than 3,000 works by the artist, as well as personal archives and photographs that help to understand his career. Segall moved through movements such as impressionism, realism and expressionism and was one of the key figures in Brazilian modernism. Lasar Segall was born in Lithuania in 1889, but it was in São Paulo that he consolidated his career and became a key figure in the Brazilian artistic avant-garde. The museum was conceived by his wife, Jenny Klabin Segall, and inaugurated by his children in 1967. Since then, it has preserved and disseminated the artist’s legacy and is considered one of the capital’s main cultural facilities.
