We already know that São Paulo has some of the most incredible restaurants in the world, but have you ever imagined going back in time and having lunch inside an old train with a view of the mountains? At the Estação Boca do Monte Restaurant, in the countryside of Piedade, this is possible!
In addition to the historictrain car, this family-run restaurant has sustainability as one of its core values. It celebrates nature and locally sourced ingredients, and brings together home-style cooking, art, and railway heritage all under one roof.
Surrounded by nature, the train-based restaurant is also located near the structures of the old hydroelectric plant built in 1911 to provide electricity to the city. It is still operational and currently generates part of the property’s energy.
The cuisine at the Estação Boca do Monte restaurant
The cuisine is characterized by healthy, home-style cooking. Therefore, the standout features of the dishes are seasonal ingredients and artichokes, since Piedade is the country’s largest producer.
With a menu full of pasta dishes garnished with edible flowers, the dishes are the perfect combination of comfort food and signature touches.
The Pullman Car
Purchased by artist Paulo de Andrade, the Pullman railcar was acquired—already scrapped—at an auction held by the former state-owned company Ferrovia Paulista S/A (FEPASA) in 1990. A railroad enthusiast since childhood, Paulo named the restaurant after his hometown: Santa Maria da Boca do Monte, in Rio Grande do Sul.
After facing transportation challenges on the way to Piedade, the train underwent renovations to become the main dining room. The Pullman car, which once transported executives on business trips, now welcomes visitors seeking this immersive experience!

Boca do Monte is located at km 121 of the Padre Guilherme Howell Highway, in Alto da Piedade, about 100 km from the capital. It is currently open Thursday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and on weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
