Now in its 51st edition, the Japan Festival has brought Japanese culture throughout Brazil with its traveling festival that combines cultural attractions, artistic expressions, and, of course, traditional cuisine. This time, Santos is hosting the event from September 4 to 7 at Valongo Park, and you can enjoy the long weekend immersed in Asian culture!
In the case of Santos, the celebration is even more special: there is a historical connection between Japan and this coastal city. In 1908, the ship Kasato Maru docked at the port of Santos, becoming a symbolic milestone for Japanese immigration to the country.
Therefore, the choice of Valongo Park, so close to the Santos port area, gives the festival even greater significance and helps honor the Japanese people and their descendants in Brazil.
The purpose of the Japan Festival is to showcase a country with a diverse culture that goes beyond the traditional cuisine and pop culture we consume today. The event thus fosters a rich cultural exchange between Brazil and Japan.
What can you expect from the Japan Festival in Santos?

The Japanese festival brings tradition to the general public through performances of traditional dances, taiko, and Shishimai. It also offers workshops and events related to Japanese arts.
However, the event also balances tradition with contemporary elements to appeal to all audiences. That’s why it features cosplay contests and attractions related to anime and manga.
In addition, the initiative includes charitable activities. Admission to the festival is free upon donation of 1 kg of non-perishable food. Donations will be distributed to organizations selected by the event organizers.
The cuisine of the Japanesefestival
The area that draws the biggest crowds, the food court, brings together vendors offering everything from traditional Japanese cuisine to street food and more contemporary options.
The menu features classic dishes such as sushi, sashimi, temaki, yakisoba, and ramen, as well as options like takoyaki, tempura, and okonomiyaki. For dessert, there will be Asian-inspired sweets such as mochi, and to drink, bubble tea and other traditional beverages.
In fact, in previous editions of the festival in Santos, the venue also featured Korean food vendors, offering visitors even more variety.
