Known as Interparques, the longest trail in the city of São Paulo was inaugurated last Saturday. At an astonishing 182 km long, the trail is a must for anyone who enjoys adventure and wants to explore the nature that surrounds the city of São Paulo.
This trail now connects several conservation units, reserves, dams and even Bororé Island. But despite the long distance, it is well signposted, ensuring that hikers who follow the signs correctly don’t get lost!
What will you find along the way?
Along the trail, you’ll pass through important parks and reserves, such as Bororé, Varginha, Itaim, Jaceguava, Várzea do Embu-Guaçu and the Curucutu Nucleus of the Serra do Mar State Park. You can also check out a pier on the Billings Dam and an observation tower with a panoramic view.
The flora and fauna are also highlights of the route. Pink cedars, silver embaúbas, ferns and araucaria trees adorn the city’s longest trail and, if you’re lucky, you may also come across howler monkeys, tangarás, squirrels and coatis.

The natural beauty of this trail is exuberant! At some points, you can see the transition from the Atlantic Forest to the Cerrado. You’ll also see endangered species and learn more about environmental conservation.
The Interparques Trail is safe and well signposted so that visitors can make their way along peacefully. Signs from the Brazilian Long Distance Trails Network mark the entire route. There are three types of sign: directional, which points the way; confirmatory, which ensures that the visitor is on the right path; and reassuring, which also confirms that the route is correct. So all you have to do is put on shoes suitable for a long walk and venture into São Paulo’s newest attraction!
