Attention, adventurers: the Pedra Lisa Trail, which links Paranapiacaba to Santos, is open again! It was reopened this January after being closed for more than twenty years for restoration work.
The trail was part of the youth of hundreds of people from São Paulo, who took advantage of its paths to camp and have contact with nature. So if you miss the place – or you’re only just starting out and haven’t had the chance to visit it yet – check out everything we know about the trail’s reopening below!
Pedra Lisa trail now open after more than 20 years
In 2004, the state government closed the trail to begin a recovery process. According to the agency, the aim was to revitalize the historic layout of the trail, which was suffering from degradation due to irregular use and geological factors.
The reopening took place this month, at the beginning of 2025. In all, these 21 years of work have seen an investment of R$1.86 million, including the implementation of user guides and conservation manuals, which help preserve the area and consolidate it as an ecotourism destination.
In addition to Pedra Lisa, the trails to Cachoeira Escondida and Mirante have also been revitalized.
How to get to know the trail?
The Pedra Lisa Trail starts in the village of Paranapiacaba, in Santo André. Access is via Caminho da Bela Vista, in Parque Nascentes, and from now on can only be done in the presence of a guide accredited by the local town hall.
Visits take place from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8.30am to 4pm. You must book your visit in advance by calling (11) 4439-0321 or emailing parquenascentes@santoandre.sp.gov.br.
Finally, the Pedra Lisa Trail is only 3,200 meters long. Although it’s not that long, it is quite difficult, so it’s only recommended for experienced hikers.
