The 5th edition of the ERUV street festival in São Paulo takes over Rua Três Rios in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, with the aim of transforming it into a space for collective interaction, featuring history, art, and cuisine. Above all, it aims to foster integration among the neighborhood’s diverse communities.
This blend encompasses various aspects of the celebration: both the cultures involved—including Jewish, Korean, Bolivian, Latin American, and Brazilian—and the coming together of different generations among visitors, merchants, residents, and participating artists.
The concept behind the proposal stems from Jewish tradition: in Judaism, the ERUV is a symbolically shared area. In other words, the purpose of the event is to transform the street into a kind of collective home, where the public can socialize and deepen their relationships with the neighborhood.
ERUV is a festival organized by the neighborhood itself, with the program developed collaboratively by local businesses and participating community initiatives.
Over the past five years, it has been organized by the Casa do Povo cultural center, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
ERUV’s Cuisine
Here, the festival’s food is not merely a service, but rather a language of affection that fosters memory and equality. Therefore, the table is set up on the street, surrounded by residents, workers, and homeless people from the area.
In 2023, ERUV offered 500 free meals prepared by the Ocupação Mauá kitchen and chef Graziela Tavares, with tcholent—a traditional Jewish dish—as the main highlight.
In 2026, the plan remains the same: the 500 meals will be prepared by Ocupação 9 de Julho. Vegetarian and chicken versions of tcholent will also be available.
Activities, concerts, and attractions
The festival’s diverse program features musical performances, theater, street games, and even a bingo game. In addition, it offers cultural and craft workshops for the public.
ERUV will also screen documentaries as part of the attractions at the Casa do Povo headquarters and in the vicinity of Rua Três Rios. The Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade will host some of the program’s highlights, such as the Productive Inclusion Fair, exhibitions, and discussion groups.

When and where does it take place?
With free admission, the 5th edition of the ERUV festival takes place on August 21 and 22 in the Bom Retiro neighborhood. The festival is centered primarily on Três Rios Street, where the Casa do Povo cultural center is located.
In general, the opening begins at 7:00 p.m. with the ERUV Procession, which runs from SESC Bom Retiro to Rua Três Rios, led by the Klezmer Bloco.
