The celebration invites the public to practice hanami, the Japanese concept of contemplating the fleeting beauty of sakura ( cherry blossoms). In addition, most events feature cultural and culinary programs typical of Japan, offering an immersion in Japanese culture without leaving the state of São Paulo.

Now in its 46th edition, the Parque do Carmo celebration has established itself as one of São Paulo’s most traditional cherry blossom festivals. Visitors can practice hanami —the Japanese custom of admiring the flowers—amid more than 4,000 blooming sakura trees! It’s the perfect setting for a family picnic, breathing in fresh air, and capturing incredible photos.
In addition to flower viewing, the public can enjoy a rich cultural program, which takes place in conjunction with the 6th Tanabata Matsuri Festival of the Stars. There will be a food court filled with traditional Asian dishes, folk dance performances, and the impressive sounds of taiko drums.
How about extending your trip beyond the state capital? The Campos do Jordão Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates its 55th edition by combining natural beauty with Japanese culture. The event is the perfect excuse to head up into the mountains for the weekend, enjoy the cool weather, and admire the blooming flowers.
The food court brings together Asian classics ( such as sushi, yakisoba, and tempura) and typical mountain delicacies, such as pine nuts and artisanal chocolates. The festival also offers origami workshops, taiko performances, and the traditional tea ceremony, providing a true immersion in Japanese culture.

If you want to admire the cherry blossoms without leaving the central region, the Japanese Pavilion is a peaceful retreat in the heart of Ibirapuera. Although it is not a festival per se, the site is home to beautiful sakura that bloom at this time of year around a traditional garden and a koi pond.
As a bonus, between July and September, visitors can enjoy the blooming of the yellow and purple ipê trees in Ibirapuera Park, which create a unique contrast of colors in the landscape!
