Cuteness alert! A zoo in the metropolitan region of São Paulo has just announced the birth of three white tiger cubs, one of the rarest species of animal. There are two males and a female who have been given the names Ravi, Asha and Aruna (“sun”, “hope” and “dawn”, respectively), words in Hindi that pay homage to their Indian origins.
The siblings were born in March, but have only just been “introduced” to the public. So if you don’t have plans for the weekend, how about taking some time off to meet São Paulo’s cutest newborns?
White tiger cubs
The little tigers are the offspring of Indira and Radesh, white Bengal tigers of Indian origin, born in Brazil. As is customary for the species, the mother will now be responsible for protecting and caring for the cubs, teaching them to hunt.
Only a few months old, the kittens have already adapted to the enclosure and are delighting visitors to Animália Park, in the interior of São Paulo. With white fur, black stripes and blue eyes, they attract attention for their beauty and cuteness, but also for their puppy-like energy, running, playing and exploring every corner of their home.
All this under the watchful eye of Indira, who, according to her carers, has become a super attentive and overprotective mother. Which is fortunate, since first-time tiger moms can struggle with motherhood or even reject their cubs.
Ravi, Asha, Aruna and their parents are the only family of white tigers in Brazil. The species is native to Southeast Asia, present in India, Bhutan and Pakistan, but is threatened with extinction due to illegal hunting and the destruction of its natural habitat. So the birth of the three cubs is a celebration for the whole species.
How to visit?
The white tiger cubs are at the Animália Park a private park 33 kilometers from São Paulo. The address is Estrada do Furquim, 1490, KM 39 of the Raposo Tavares highway, in Cotia. Tickets start at R$100.
