If there’s one thing that unites São Paulo residents, it’s their passion for pizza. And now, this love is going to become an award: SP8 Pizza was born, the first election 100% dedicated to valuing the best pizzas and pizzerias in the city.
Inspired by the success of Padocaria-SP, the new gastronomic contest will take place between June 6 and 29, with direct public participation and a big celebration at the Immigration Museum.
Paulistanos choose their favorite pizzas in two stages
With more than 4,500 pizzerias spread across São Paulo and around 570,000 pizzas baked every day, the city is one of the biggest pizza hubs in the world – second only to New York in terms of the number of specialized houses.
That’s why journalist Miguel Icassatti and chef Eduardo Maya decided to create SP8 Pizza, rewarding the pizzerias that really win the hearts (and taste buds) of São Paulo residents.
Voting will take place on the official SP8 Pizza website and will have two phases:
📌 First phase – from June 6 to 15
The public will vote for the best Marguerita, Calabrian and Portuguese pizzas in the city. If the name of the pizzeria you want isn’t on the website, you can enter it manually on the platform. In addition, it is important to remember that in order to guarantee the validity of the votes, it will be necessary to confirm them via e-mail.
📌 Second phase – from June 20 to 29
The three most voted pizzerias from each region (Center, North, South, East and West) will go through to the final. The technical jury and the public will then decide the best pizzeria in each region and the overall champion of the city.
The result will be revealed on July 12, during the Pizza Festival, a gastronomic event open to the public at the Immigration Museum.
Finally, according to Eduardo Maya, the aim is to highlight all styles of pizzeria – from classic to Neapolitan, from counter-service to wood-fired. “By highlighting the best of each region, we show the diversity and quality of what São Paulo has to offer,” he says.
