São Paulo is preparing to welcome a new Sesc, this time in the North Zone! The space will occupy the site of the iconic Casa de Nassau, a historic mansion from the 1920s that marked the history of Dutch immigrants in São Paulo.
Located on Avenida Raimundo Pereira de Magalhães, the future Sesc Pirituba will renovate the old club’s facilities to create a modern living and leisure space. In this way, the project revitalizes the historical heritage while renewing the region’s entertainment scene.

Sesc Pirituba to occupy almost century-old mansion
The mansion was inaugurated in 1929, when it served as a residence for Alec Wellington, then superintendent of the São Paulo Railway. The 24,000 square meter site housed a swimming pool, large gardens and even a stud farm for the Englishman’s family.
In 1957, the Dutch Society of São Paulo bought the property and transformed it into Casa de Nassau. The place became a key meeting point for the community, hosting traditional Dutch festivals and cultural events. In addition, the large mill at the entrance became a symbol of the European presence in the neighborhood.
Over time, however, the decrease in the number of members led the Dutch Club to face financial difficulties. Despite the great interest of construction companies in building new developments on the site, the City Hall has listed Casa de Nassau as a historical heritage site, protecting it from demolition.
What will the new Sesc São Paulo be like?
After years of uncertainty, Sesc São Paulo has announced a new era for Casa de Nassau. The institution has acquired the land and plans to transform it into an accessible leisure complex for the residents of Pirituba. The project, which will occupy 47,000 square meters, includes the restoration of the former Dutch Club headquarters.
Visitors will be able to enjoy four swimming pools, multi-sports gyms, a cafeteria and a theater with seating for up to 350 spectators. In addition, the new Sesc São Paulo will have libraries, workshop rooms and outdoor living spaces.
Sesc Pirituba is scheduled to open in 2029, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the original residence. By combining modernity and respect for the centenary heritage of Casa de Nassau, the unit promises to be one of the most iconic leisure spots in São Paulo’s North Zone.
