In honor of Mauricio de Sousa’s 90th birthday, São Paulo is the setting for a very special urban event. The city’s streets, squares, parks, and cultural centers are hosting the most beloved gang from the comics, inviting São Paulo residents to go on a Statue Hunt for their favorite characters.
The initiative, organized by the City of São Paulo in partnership with the Mauricio de Sousa Institute, has placed 91 sculptures inspired by 30 characters throughout the city. And now you can use Waze to find them!

More than just an exhibition, the Turma da Mônica statues are an invitation to take a walk and rediscover São Paulo. The organizers distributed the sculptures throughout all regions, transforming the city into an open-air tour for fans of the gang.
Among the locations are Praça da Sé ( Monica Toy), Praça da República ( Magali), and the Viaduto do Chá ( Chico Bento). The studio also created a character especially for the occasion: Paulistinha, who stands in front of City Hall.
But it doesn’t stop there: visitors will also find three giant inflatables! Sansão , at the Mário de Andrade Library; Bidu, in front of the Municipal Theater; and a sculpture of Mauricio de Sousa himself, at the São Paulo Cultural Center (CCSP).
There are also statues of Cascão, Marina, Horácio, Cebolinha, Jotalhão, Milena, and other friends from the gang in classic, gold, and silver versions.
Find the Turma da Mônica statues on Waze!
With 91 sculptures scattered throughout the city, it’s hard to remember where each one is. That’s why the Waze mobility app, in partnership with Mauricio de Sousa Produções (MSP), is offering an exclusive map showing the locations of the sculptures.
To find them, simply search for “Mauricio 90 Years” in the address field. The app will automatically show you the statues closest to you, and then all you have to do is choose your favorite to check out!
