Who hasn’t heard that if you’re lost in São Paulo, all you have to do is take a bus to Parque Dom Pedro and it will drop you off close to home? Line 3459 is so extensive that it seems to be present in every corner of the city, becoming a meme on social media for being the biggest and longest bus in São Paulo.
Despite its apparent omnipresence on the streets of São Paulo, the Instagram profile @_cartomaps published some shocking information this week: there is a bus that travels an even greater distance than Parque Dom Pedro II! Do you know which one it is?
What is the longest bus in São Paulo?
In a straight line, the distance between Rio Pequeno and Ipiranga isn’t that surprising: about 18 kilometers, which, let’s face it, is equivalent to a quick ride in São Paulo’s daily life. Even so, the title of São Paulo’s largest bus goes to the line that connects the two neighborhoods: the 477P – Rio Pequeno/Ipiranga.
This is because the route is almost zig-zag, increasing the mileage (and a lot). It covers 78 kilometers without leaving the city – a distance similar to that between São Paulo and Cabreúva, in the Jundiaí Metropolitan Region.
The line has 102 stops and takes an average of 2h25 to complete the journey. That’s without traffic, eh? In other words, during rush hour, taking the biggest bus in São Paulo becomes a real odyssey.
Check out the Top 5 longest bus lines in the capital
Despite losing out to the 477P, the famous Terminal Parque Dom Pedro II continues to live up to its reputation on social media. Its omnipresence is such that the line is able to join the unbelievable ranking of the five longest bus lines in the city, which together accumulate more than 350 kilometers.
In other words, if you take all five lines in one day, you ‘ll walk more than someone who travels to Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo, 332 kilometers from the capital. And, of course, you’ll spend (almost) every hour of your day:
#5: 5362 – Cocaia/Praça da Sé
