There’s nothing cozier than a Sunday lunch at grandma’s house, is there? What if we told you that there’s a restaurant in São Paulo that can give you the same warm feeling in your heart? We’re talking about Lá na Vó – Sabores da Infância, a cafeteria and restaurant in the Zona Sul (South Zone ) that seeks to rescue this emotional memory that most of us have of our matriarchs.
With its nostalgic and intimate decor, the place offers tasty snacks and meals that will transport you straight back to your childhood and will certainly leave you wanting more. After all, we never get sick of grandma’s cooking.
Lá na Vó: taste the flavors of childhood again
The restaurant was born in 2019, in a small space, but full of affection and homemade food. But over time, the business has grown until it now occupies a house with a backyard in Vila da Saúde, close to Avenida Jabaquara.
Lá na Vó works as a restaurant and cafeteria, offering snacks and meals. For those who want lunch or dinner, for example, the “Vovô Landão” (photo) is pasta with fresh tomato sauce, Calabrian sausage, olives, capers and manjeiricão from the garden. It’s named after the dish that Seu Orlando, the grandfather of the house, always served the family on Sundays!
Breakfast, served only on Saturdays, features freshly brewed coffee, corn and cornmeal cakes, breads and other homemade flavors that seem to have come from Grandma’s kitchen.
But that’s just the beginning. There you’ll find countless pastas, meats and sal ads, as well as pies and snacks, such as cheese bread and Seu Orlando’s homemade coxinha. There are even several vegetarian options.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is another reminder of childhood. The house has a large backyard with outdoor tables, reminding us of those trips to visit family in the countryside.
