Casa das Rosas is one of the most complete cultural spaces on Avenida Paulista, combining the history of the coffee-growing elite, classic French architecture and memories of São Paulo’s literary scene. Opened in 1935, it is one of the few surviving old mansions on and offers us the chance to travel back in time to the São Paulo capital of yesteryear.
From December 10 to 14, Casa das Rosas is hosting a special program in honor of its 90th anniversary. All the attractions are free, with light shows, workshops, guided tours and more. Find out the details and enjoy!

The mansion was once home to a family from the coffee-growing elite
Construction of the house began in 1927 to a design by Felisberto Ranzini. The architect was inspired by the classic French style to build the mansion, which has 30 rooms, a marble staircase, colorful stained glass windows and large gardens, where they grew the beautiful roses that gave the property its name.
Initially, Casa das Rosas served as the residence of the Ramos de Azevedo family, for whom Felisberto Ranzini worked. The family lived there until the 1980s, when the appearance of Avenida Paulista began to change. Most of the residential mansions were demolished, so the São Paulo government expropriated Casa das Rosas before it met the same fate.
So, at the end of the 20th century, the mansion became a São Paulohistorical heritage site and opened to the public as an art gallery. Shortly afterwards, in the early 2000s, it was reopened as the Haroldo de Campos Poetry and Literature Space, with more than 35,000 books from the poet’s library in its collection.

Today, Casa das Rosas has established itself as one of São Paulo’s main literary centers. In addition to its large library, the mansion also offers workshops, exhibitions, courses, musical performances and exhibitions. All free and accessible to the public!
And until next Sunday, the 14th, the special “90 Springs” program brings even more attractions to Casa das Rosas. Among them, the themed visit “Invisible stories: the Casa das Rosas employees”, which presents curiosities about people who have been part of the history of the mansion; and the performance “Poets in Song”, with the Asa da Palavra choir. The activities are free, with no need to register in advance, but subject to the space being full.
In addition, during this period, visiting hours are extended until 8pm. Check out the full “90 Primaveras” program at casadasrosas.org.br!
