If you’re looking for a paradisiacal destination to visit this summer, the tip of the day is Ubatuba. After all, the seaside town combines beautiful beaches à exuberant nature with landscapes that are real postcards!
Located 220 km from São Paulo, the city is now a favorite among São Paulo residents. After all, in 2024, a Datafolha survey of the capital’s residents voted it the best beach in the southeast and one of the best beaches in Brazil. We don’t need to say any more to convince you to go, do we?
So here’s a guide to what to do in Ubatuba, with the beaches you can’t miss!
What to do in Ubatuba?
Selinha Island
Did you know that the smallest beach in the world could be in Ubatuba? Ilha da Selinha, also called Ilha Rachada, has a small strip of sand 40 meters long and only 5 meters wide. So small that the local town hall has nominated it for the Book of Records!
This beautiful postcard of Ubatuba can be reached by boat or speedboat, or by scuba diving. But these are only recommended for experienced snorkelers!
Puruba Beach
Located 20km from the city center, Puruba Beach is an almost untouched paradise in Ubatuba. It stands out for its tranquillity and for the unique meeting of the sea with the Puruba and Quiririm rivers, allowing you to swim in fresh and salt water.
To access the beach, you have to cross the river by boat, a tour offered by locals in high season, or on foot if the tide is low. Even so, you need to be aware of the current to ensure a safe visit to this unique Ubatuban destination.
Maranduba Beach
For those who prefer a walk with more infrastructure and movement, the tip is Maranduba Beach. With a 2 km stretch of beachfront, the place has kiosks, restaurants, banana boat rides, kayak rentals and more.
The best time to visit is out of season, as the beach tends to get very crowded during the vacations.
Serra do Mar State Park
Finally, the town is also home to the Picinguaba Nucleus of the Serra do Mar State Park, one of the most important environmental reserves in the state of São Paulo. The conservation unit has five fully preserved beaches, perfect for those looking to surf or just enjoy a peaceful day by the sea.
In addition, the park offers activities such as hiking, canoeing, bird watching, night walks and visits to waterfalls! In fact, it is in the Picinguaba Nucleus that we find the Água Branca Waterfallthe largest in São Paulo. At an impressive 180 meters high, the waterfall is one of the most beautiful views you’ll find in the city.
