Picturesque Caconde is in the interior of the state of São Paulo, close to the border with Minas Gerais. Home to approximately 17,000 inhabitants, the town is an oasis of peace and tranquillity for those who want to get away from the big city. So if you’re thinking of traveling inland on your next break, check out what to do in Caconde!
The city is 291 kilometers, or about 4 hours, from São Paulo. The local attractions stand out for their natural beauty and affordable prices, making it an unmissable destination for those who want to spend little.
In addition, the city’s great differential is its coffee tourism. In other words, in Caconde, coffee lovers can get to know the production of the bean up close and take part in tastings. You can even try a coffee that has already been served – and approved – by two popes. Shall we get to know it?
What to do in Caconde (SP)?
Blessed coffee
Caconde is currently the largest coffee producer in the state of São Paulo. That’s why visiting the town is a tasty dip into the world of coffee, visiting coffee farms and tasting different varieties of the drink.
One of the most famous farms is Sítio Boa Vista do Engano, where Café Bazilli is produced. Founded in 1916 by an immigrant family, the coffee stands out for having already fallen into the cups of two popes: first in 2007, when Benedict XVI visited Brazil, and then in 2013, when Pope Francis paid a visit to Aparecida.
The tour of the estate allows you to visit the coffee plantations and learn about the century-old process of making Café Bazilli, with options for a roasting workshop and coffee tasting. Another special feature is the “Theo and his coffee plantations” tour, whose guide is little Theo, perfect for children (and adults!) who want to get to know the farm. And the best thing: the visit costs from R$2.00.
Viewpoint, waterfalls and more
If you’re not into coffee, no problem: there are plenty of other things to do in Caconde. One of the most popular tourist attractions in the region is the Mirante de Caconde, which offers a privileged view of the Graminha Dam and the local nature. As well as Prainha Park, also on the banks of the dam, which is perfect for fishing, water sports and sand sports.
Finally, another natural attraction in Caconde are the waterfalls. The Santa Quitéria waterfall, for example, is the largest in terms of volume of water in the city and is popular for abseiling. Cachoeira do Lafaiete, on the other hand, has a restaurant nearby and is perfect for those who want to admire nature without sacrificing infrastructure.
