Considered one of the main towns in the Vale Histórico Paulista, Areias has precious remains from the golden age of coffee in São Paulo . In the town center, you can admire preserved colonial mansions and the beautiful Igreja Matriz de Sant’Ana, an example of 19th century architecture.
All this is due to the fact that Areias was one of the first towns in São Paulo to produce coffee. As a result, it quickly stood out in Brazil’s coffee market and built up a rich heritage revolving around the bean.
One of the old coffee plantations was Vargem Grande Farm an 1837 mansion that now offers accommodation to tourists. The place also has a beautiful garden designed by Burle Marx, in the old coffee yard of the mansion.
