An ambitious project by the São Paulo government aims to create the largest tourist train network in Brazil. Recently announced, the “Railway Tourism Program” will revitalize and expand railroads for tourism purposes throughout São Paulo, totaling 23 railroad circuits in the state.
In this way, different historic cities will be connected by transportation, which will create nostalgic and super cultural tours. See some of the proposed routes below!

The initiative is part of the “SP Nos Trilhos” program, which seeks to invest in the freight and passenger rail sector. In total, the state will invest R$194 billion, and all the circuits are expected to be operational by 2033.
One of the most eagerly awaited circuits is the Mantiqueira Express, which will link São Paulo to Minas Gerais. There will be 35 km of track between Cruzeiro (SP) and Passa Quatro (MG), passing through the famous tunnel of the 1932 Revolution.
Another tourist train that is in the plans is the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) train , which promises a beautiful journey through nature. The 198 km circuit will pass along the coast, from Santos to the Ribeira Valley. In addition, the city of Aparecida will have the Romeiro Train, which will further boost religious tourism in the region.
