There is a place close to the capital that is perfect for those who are thinking of taking up hiking! Pico do Lopo is one of the favorite destinations for beginner hikers and enchants with its natural phenomena, such as the so-called “sea of clouds”, when you can see several clouds forming below the peak.
In addition to this attraction, the flora and fauna of the region covered by the Atlantic Forest are also a highlight, with beautiful orchids, bromeliads, mountain birds and even maned wolves in the area. But fear not: the canid is a shy animal and usually shies away from contact with humans.

What to know before exploring Pico do Lopo?
Considered an easy hike, Pico do Lopo takes around 3 to 4 hours (taking into account stops to rest and enjoy the view). Hikers usually take around 1.5 hours to reach the summit. The starting point is the Pousada Céu da Mantiqueira, and departures are usually at night so that you can see the sunrise from the top of the mountain.
Along the way, you can enjoy views of the Jaguari Dam, Monte Verde and the Serra de Itapeva at viewpoints along the way. In addition, there are landmarks that make this experience even more unique. They are:
- Pedra dos Cinco Dedos;
- Pedra dos Cabritos;
- Pedra do Marino;
- Stone of Flowers.
