The result of a partnership between the Indian community and the Consulate General of India, the event takes place at Largo da Batata on October 18 and 19, from 11am to 9pm, with free admission. Diwali is an affordable cultural outing for those who want to discover the charms of India’s ancient culture.

What to expect from India’s Festival of Lights?
Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in the world, bringing together more than a billion people every year. The celebration is part of the Hindu calendar and symbolizes the destruction of Narakasura by Sri Krishna, and is therefore a religious event to commemorate the fall of evil.
In São Paulo, the Festival of Lights is also an opportunity to immerse yourself in Indian culture. The program includes traditional cultural performances and typical food stalls, where you can try naan, chicken masala and other delicacies.

Shows, fashion and spirituality
Among the highlights of the Indian Festival of Lights is the Ceremony of Lights, in which dozens of lit candles represent hope and renewal, with good wishes for the coming year. The Mandala Ceremony is also a separate show, with artists creating mandalas out of colored sand live at the festival.
The stage hosts traditional music and dance performances that will make you feel like you’re on a Bollywood movie set. Finally, Diwali also offers a unique opportunity to get a closer look at Indian fashion, with members of the community wearing typical clothes and props.
