On October 4th and 5th, São Paulo will host another edition of the Chinese Moon Festival. The festival, which has existed for more than three thousand years, is a celebration of great importance in Chinese culture and has become present in places with a large number of immigrants from the country.
The event is also known as the “Mid-Autumn Festival”, as it always takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. This date is special for Chinese traditions and other Asian peoples, as it marks the arrival of fall and the October harvest. In other words: time to celebrate.
The São Paulo version of the Chinese Moon Festival will be held on Rua 25 de Março, easily accessible from Estação São Bento, Ladeira Porto Geral exit. The program is free and takes place on Saturday from 10am to 9pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Don’t miss it!

Chinese Moon Festival brings ancient culture to São Paulo!
The Chinese Moon Festival is promoted by the Chinese community in São Paulo which seeks to present its culture and value it on Brazilian soil. The event offers São Paulo residents a real immersion in the traditions and customs of the people of China.
The full program is not yet available. But we already know that there will be artistic performances, martial arts demonstrations and folk dances, as well as workshops in Chinese painting, origami and Chinese calligraphy.
In addition, the event will have plenty of typical cuisine. One option will be the famous mooncakes – made with glutinous rice dough and filled with sesame seed paste, red bean paste or egg paste – which are the symbol of the festival.

Largest Chinese dragon in Brazil!
The Chinese Moon Festival also features the traditional lion dance, an unmissable spectacle that mixes colors, dance and martial arts movements. The tradition dates back over a thousand years and, for the Chinese, represents prosperity and courage, as well as attracting fortune and scaring away evil spirits.
Finally, the main attraction will be the Chinese Dragon, a legendary creature from Chinese mythology that represents strength, wisdom and power. São Paulo will have the honor of hosting Brazil’s largest, which will be over 100 meters long! If you like discovering new cultures and free events, then you can’t miss out.
