This Halloween, Cine na Praça invites you to experience cinematically spine-chilling nights at the Jardim Suspenso of the São Paulo Cultural Center! Now in its 15th edition, the project uses public spaces to bring the free outdoor movie experience to life, with São Paulo’s urban landscape as the backdrop. So get ready to enjoy the city in a whole new way!
The curation usually changes with each event. So, right in the middle of October, the theme couldn’t be anything else: “Monster-O-Rama, ” which loosely translates to “monster show,” “monster festival,” or “grand monstrous exhibition.”
In fact, the chosen name evokes an aesthetic already familiar to many of us: something retro, reminiscent of B-movie posters and old-fashioned amusement parks mixed with contemporary horror culture.
The Halloween lineup at Cine na Praça
In partnership with Cine Phenomena, Cine na Praça has put together a spine-tingling lineup to celebrate Halloween and enjoy the holiday in São Paulo.
Although it’s a season of horror, the intention isn’t just to scare people. That’s why the screenings have been organized into five sections, each focused on a subgenre:
- Blades in the Dark: featuring killers, chases, and suspense
- Kids & Monsters: dark fantasy and kid-friendly horror
- Cursed Literature: Characters and Narratives from Literary Universes
- Possessed Bodies: bodily horror, possession, and alien apparitions
- Horror ’80: classics from the ’80s and their pop iconography
And finally, the special Halloween Cine na Praça lineup will come to a memorable close on October 31 with a screening of a classic that appeals to both children and adults: The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Beyond the big screens: the event’s activities

With a sense of horror in the air, the evening begins with an Open Mic before the screenings, where the audience takes over the microphone and shares their own horror stories, making the wait for the movie much more entertaining.
In fact, on October 31, the event wraps up with a bang by bringing in classic American Halloween traditions: in partnership with Fini, there will be a treat giveaway and a costume contest, so make sure to go all out on your spooky look!
