As well as being one of the most famous cities on the São Paulo coast, Guarujá has also just entered the ranking of the safest cities in Brazil. The data comes from Connected Smart Cities 2024 which evaluated 656 cities to arrive at the results.
The municipality is in 12th place in terms of safety, ahead of other cities in the region, such as Santos, Praia Grande, São Sebastião and Itanhaém. Thus, we can say that Guarujá is statistically the safest city on the São Paulo coast.
Why does Guarujá stand out in terms of safety?
The ranking takes a number of indicators into account when deciding the results. These include monitoring risk areas, homicide rates, municipal investments in security and the like. The greatest weight goes to the homicide indicator, and finally, the analysis of each piece of data is added together to give a score from 1 to 5.
Guarujá received a score of 4.217, or 84% of the total. For the municipality, this is due to investments in specialized training for the Municipal Guard and the reactivation of the camera monitoring system.
Of the 15 safest cities in Brazil, a third are in São Paulo
Another relevant fact is that the state of São Paulo stands out in Connected Smart Cities. When we look at the Safety indicator, we notice the large presence of São Paulo cities in the top positions.
In fact, the title of safest city in the country went to Santana de Paranaíba, in the interior of the state. The capital is also in 5th place, the best-placed among municipalities with more than 500,000 inhabitants, followed by São Caetano do Sul. Another highlight is Artur Nogueira, in the Campinas Metropolitan Region, which is in 10th place.
