Located at 200 Avenida Ipiranga, Edifício Copan is an architectural landmark in São Paulo. Oscar Niemeyer’s masterpiece has adorned São Paulo’s skyline since 1966, when the city was experiencing intense economic and population growth. Since its inauguration, the building has symbolized the greatness of São Paulo, becoming one of the most emblematic buildings in the central region.
Although its façade refers to a single block, Copan has six integrated blocks. Nieyemer initially envisioned a 30-storey residential tower alongside a 600-unit hotel. During construction, however, changes to the project led to the construction of a commercial and residential building with more than a thousand apartments.

A city within São Paulo
Copan houses 1160 units of different styles, from kitnets to large apartments of over 200 square meters. As a result, it attracts residents of different ages and backgrounds, forming a community of 5,000 people that reflects the diversity of São Paulo’s population.
The building is so populous that it exceeds the number of inhabitants of 22% of the municipalities in the state of São Paulo. But its density isn’t the only impressive statistic. Check out Copan’s other super numbers:
- 38 floors;
- 20 common elevators;
- 104 employees;
- 115 meters high;
- 221 car parking spaces;
- 72 stores in the commercial area.

Copan curiosities!
Copan has been listed as historical heritage of São Paulo in 2012, recognizing its cultural and architectural value. A detail that reinforces its grandeur is the fact that it has its own zip code: 01046-925.
Its terrace has a belvedere with a 360º view of the city. On the first floor, there are bookshops, clothing stores, bars and restaurants, as well as workshops and other services. Finally, some good news: the building will soon be home to the iconic Cine Copan, which, after 40 years of closure, will once again be a hub of culture andentertainment in the city center.
