On October 19, the Novo Litoral Concessionaire (CNL) closed the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega Highway (SP-055), specifically the access ramp in Itanhaém, to continue construction work on an overpass in the area.
Located at km 333+600, eastbound, the section providing access to the Bopiranga neighborhood will remain temporarily closed, with no reopening date announced yet.
Opened in 1961, the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega Highway was part of the Santos–Juquiá integration project, which the DER considers to be the origin of these highway segments. Its construction expanded road access to São Paulo’s southern coast and other regions.
Before the SP-055 existed, drivers coming from Itanhaém and Peruíbe had to navigate a rough road, including stretches that ran across the sand of local beaches. The highway made life easier for residents and boosted tourism and economic development by simplifying bus access to the coast.
What is the purpose of the construction work on this section?

According to the project, the goal of the construction work is to create a grade-separated interchange between the two sides of SP-055, reorganizing traffic flow between the highway and the surrounding neighborhoods. In addition, it promises to improve safety and efficiency for travelers on this stretch.
The impacts of the closure of the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega Highway (SP-055)

The highway connects the municipalities of the Baixada Santista to the Vale do Ribeira, passing through Itariri and Pedro de Toledo on its way to Miracatu. This stretch is significant precisely because it links coastal cities and, above all, because it connects to other major highway routes.
In addition, the highway contributes to the mobility of residents in the region, connecting neighborhoods and ensuring safe daily commutes.
With the highway closed, drivers who normally use the closed ramp toward Bopiranga will be the most affected. In this case, Itanhaém will rely on the access point at km 332+800 as an alternative route.
If drivers are merely passing through the region or wish to drive through the streets of Bopiranga during this period, there is no need to take detours or leave the highway. It is recommended that drivers follow the temporary signage and the instructions of the crews on site.
Drivers passing through the area should pay extra attention to speed limits due to the heavy traffic of machinery and workers on this stretch. Traffic may slow down near the areas where crews are performing construction work.
Finally, if you need to travel along this stretch and have questions about the changes before your trip, the Novo Litoral Concessionaire (CNL) offers customer service by phone at 0800 098 8855 (extension 3).
