Investment in the rail network is a very controversial issue in Brazil. The country of continental proportions was a benchmark for rail transportation in South America until the middle of the 20th century, but it eventually stagnated and currently depends on the air and road sectors to get around. However, this should start to change with the bullet train, which is scheduled to start construction in 2027.
This ambitious project will connect two major Brazilian capitals efficiently. This will benefit the development of the regions involved, integration between the states and, best of all, it will save users’ commuting time .
When will the bullet train be available for public use?
The project is scheduled for delivery in 2032. It seems a long way off, but the intentions to develop transportation lasted 35 years until, last year, the building permit was given.
However, at this early stage, efforts are focused on negotiations with the town halls where the train will pass and talks with potential investors. The estimated cost of the bullet train is around R$50 billion.
The great promise of new transportation
In terms of efficiency and time savings, the bullet train promises to reduce the journey time to just one hour. In other words, if it used to take us 5 to 6 hours to get to the Marvelous City, from 2032 this scenario will change for the better, as the trains can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, thus speeding up the journey.
