After the success of the first editions, The Book Fair returns to Praça Charles Miller. This year, from June 29 to July 7, the free event will feature more than 150 exhibitors, including publishers and bookstores, as well as new attractions for the São Paulo public.
The Book Fair
The initiative comes from Four Five One Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination of books in Brazil. And he was inspired by the models of street fairs common in cities like Lisbon and Madrid, where books are displayed in parks and squares open to the public.
The intention, according to the organizers, is to propose new possibilities for occupying São Paulo’s public and historic space.
In the 3rd edition, more than 150 exhibitors – including publishers and bookshops – will take their production to the street. In addition, meetings with guest writers are scheduled on three stages (one more than last year) at the Pacaembu Stadium.
Brazilian literature is one of the main focuses of the program. For this reason, the confirmed authors include representatives from different regions of the country. For example, Ivan Angelo, Reinaldo Moraes, Maria Adelaide Amaral, Stênio Gardel, Tatiana Salem Levy, José Henrique Bortoluci, Adelaide Ivánova, Gregorio Duvivier, and many others.
According to a note from the Four Five One Association:
The general concept remains the same: an open fair, which values books and contact between publishers, authors and readers, and proposes an alternative occupation of São Paulo’s public space, taking cars off the road for five days to make way for books.”
Soccer Museum at half price
Finally, to complete the tour, the Football Museum offers R$10 admission to all visitors during the Book Fair .
So if you don’t know the institution yet, it’s a great chance to do a double tour. The Football Museum’s main exhibition will be open to visitors every day of the Book Fair, from 9am to 6pm. On weekends, you can take part in guided tours, at 10am and 2pm.
