Since 2024, Aquático-SP has connected Cantinho do Céu to Parque Mar Paulista Bruno Covas via the Billings Reservoir in the capital’s South Zone. Boat transportation shortens the distance between neighborhoods, transforming a trip that used to take 1 hour and 20 minutes by bus into just 17 minutes by water. Now, the expansion of Aquático-SP could bring this convenience to other regions.
In addition to expanding service at Billings, the City is considering implementing the service at the Guarapiranga Reservoir as well. If the proposal moves forward, it will strengthen water transportation in São Paulo, creating new connections with the public transit network.

Expansion of Aquático-SP: New Connections at Billings and Plans for Guarapiranga
On October 5, the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Mobility and Transportation (SMT) presented the future outlook for water transportation in São Paulo. At the Billings Reservoir, the plan calls for the construction of new boarding points in the Pedreira, Cocaia, and Apurá neighborhoods, in the far south of São Paulo.
Meanwhile, the Guarapiranga Reservoir is undergoing its first feasibility studies for the implementation of the service. The analysis includes technical, economic, and environmental aspects, as well as conditions for integration with bus and rail systems.

Aquático-SP Wins Two Awards in 2026
After two years of operation, São Paulo’s water transportation system has completed approximately 73,000 trips and served more than 1.4 million passengers. It’s no wonder that, in 2026, Aquático-SP was recognized at two national awards ceremonies.
In August, the service won the Motorized Mobility category of the Plínio Assmann Award for Best Practices in Urban Mobility, presented by the National Association of Public Transportation (ANTP). Additionally, in October, the service won the 2026 Best and Largest Projects Award from the Institute of Engineering and ConVisão CNC in the Alternative Transportation category.
