Armazém Solidário is a program run by the city of São Paulo that expands vulnerable families’ access to essential items. With eight locations in the state capital, the project offers food at up to half the price of traditional grocery stores.
Since its opening in January 2024, the project has surpassed the 2 million service mark and benefited more than 142,000 families. In addition to significant discounts, the Armazém Solidário stands out for promoting healthy eating by prioritizing fresh and minimally processed products.
What is the Armazém Solidário?
The Armazém Solidário in São Paulo operates as a public supermarket offering discounts ranging from 30 to 50 percent. In the stores, shoppers can find food, fruits, vegetables, hygiene and cleaning products, and even pet supplies at more affordable prices.
But the focus isn’t just on price: about 94% of the food available through the program is natural, organic, or fresh. Furthermore, the stores do not sell soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, or ultra-processed foods, in order to encourage healthier food choices among vulnerable families.
How does the Armazém Solidário work?
To shop at the Armazém Solidário, you must live in the city of São Paulo and have an active CadÚnico number. Therefore, service is provided only to low-income families already registered in the system.
The City sets the prices based on market research. There is a daily limit on the number of items per shopper to ensure access for as many families as possible.
