We have already realized that you really like what’s secret and what’s underground. After all, you love our list of underground tours of the city. So we decided to explore more of what’s down here and discovered São Paulo’s underground bars .
So, check out our selection of bars of all kinds, for all tastes and budgets just a few feet off the ground.
São Paulo’s favorite underground bars
Bar dos Arcos
Can you imagine that the underground corridors of the Municipal Theater hide a bar? This is where Bar dos Arcos is located, one of São Paulo’s favorites. In addition to the large illuminated counters, the venue has kept the brick walls exposed to maintain the iconic style of the historic building.
📍 Ramos De Azevedo Square, s/n – República
Bunker Bar
Located in the basement of ‘à Mercê’, a place that is a mix of coffee shop and grocery store with selected products, Bar do Bunker is a wine bar with live music. In addition, the intimate little room still stocks the cheeses that finish the maturing process in the center of São Paulo.
📍 Praça da República, 119 – República
Cofre Bar – SubAstor
SubAstor’s second unit in São Paulo is called Bar do Cofre. After all, it is located in the basement of the Santander Lighthouse, where the Banespão vault used to be.
📍 Rua João Brícola, 24 – Centro
Cava Bar
One of our favorite bars, the Cava Bar has already secured the selfie of approval of the São Paulo Secreto. After all, it has everything we like: good drinks in an intimate and (almost) secret setting.
📍 Rua Guarará, 565 – Jardim Paulista
Zebra Space
The two-storey building has a gallery, a woodworking store, a store and an intimate bar. This is also where journalist and mixologist Néli Pereira presents her creations made with different Brazilian herbs.
📍 Rua Major Diogo, 237, Bela Vista
Raiz Club
The Raiz Club occupies the basement of the renowned Jacarandá restaurant in Pinheiros. That’s why anyone who walks through the house’s garden will soon find the discreet door to the city’s authentic speakeasy.
📍 Rua Alves Guimarães, 153 – Pinheiros
Bonus: The Grotto Bar
Finally, that “sujinho” just the way we like it, with cold beer, a pool table and even forró nights. All this in the basement of an old building in the center of São Paulo.
📍 Rua Major Quedinho, 112-A – Centro
