With the arrival of New Year‘s Eve, São Paulo will have a special public transportation operation to serve residents and visitors on December 31st and January 1st.
Municipal buses, the Metro, CPTM and concession lines will operate with fleet adjustments, different timetables and free fares on the first day of the year, as well as road changes in the Avenida Paulista region due to the New Year’s Eve party.

How public transportation works on New Year’s Eve in São Paulo
Municipal buses: Zero fare and special operation
On January 1st, all municipal buses in the capital will run free of charge from 0:00 to 23:59 under the Domingão Tarifa Zero program, allowing travel throughout the city without charging a fare. The measure also applies to the return of the public taking part in New Year’s Eve on Avenida Paulista.
According to SPTrans, the bus fleet will be as follows:
- December 31: operation with Sunday fleet
- January 1st: operation with Sunday fleet, with Zero Fare
To attend the Paulista party, a special operation has been organized with 46 lines and around 500 vehicles, with disembarkations on nearby streets such as Rua da Consolação, Avenida Brigadeiro Luís Antônio, Alameda Santos and Cincinato Braga, São Carlos do Pinhal and Antônio Carlos streets.
Blockades and detours on Avenida Paulista
In addition, due to the setting up and staging of New Year’s Eve 2025/26:
- The José Roberto F. Mellen Tunnel will be completely blocked from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., until January 6;
- Avenida Paulista will be completely blocked off until 5am on January 6, initially between Rua Bela Cintra and Rua Haddock Lobo;
- From 8pm on January 30, the blockade will extend to the entire stretch between Rua Teixeira da Silva and Rua da Consolação.

Metropolitan transportation: Metro and CPTM
CPTM
According to CPTM:
- December 31: normal weekday operation
- January 1st: Sunday/holiday operation
Between the evening of the 31st and dawn on the 1st, there will be uninterrupted circulation, with all transfers open.
Subway
The Metro will have a special schedule during New Year’s Eve at Paulista:
- Consolação station closes from 10am on the 31st and reopens after 4.40am on the 1st;
- Paraíso, Brigadeiro and Trianon-MASP stations will be open 24 hours a day, with boarding, disembarking and ticket offices open;
- Other stations on lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver operate until 2 a.m. for boarding and, after that, only for disembarking;
- During the early hours of the morning, there will be a reinforced fleet and additional security and service teams.
Concession lines: ViaQuatro and ViaMobilidade
The ViaQuatro and ViaMobilidade concessionaires will also operate differently:
- Line 4-Yellow: Paulista-Pernambucanas and Higienópolis-Mackenzie stations open 24 hours for boarding and disembarking; other stations open until 2 a.m;
- Line 5-Lilac: open until midnight, with transfer and disembarkation after that time;
- Lines 8-Diamante and 9-Esmeralda: normal operation until midnight, with disembarkations every 30 minutes during the early hours.
Finally, according to the official information, an estimated audience of more than two million people is expected at an event that will have 14 hours of programming and concerts by big names in Brazilian music, as well as the traditional silent fireworks display at the turn of 2026.
