The Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park (PETAR) is one of São Paulo’s most iconic ecotourism destinations, a true paradise for those who love exploring caves. There are more than 300 underground attractions there, about a third of all those in the state of São Paulo! But among the many, one stands out: the Temimina Cave, which steals the show for its unusual overhead shower.
The Temimina Cave is a must for anyone who wants to venture completely into nature and explore PETAR’s unique treasures . After all, the “natural shower” is one of the rarest formations in the world and cannot be seen anywhere else in Brazil.

Temimina Cave is a hidden treasure in the interior of the state of São Paulo
Many tourists consider the Temimina Cave, located in the Caboclos Nucleus, to be PETAR’s most beautiful. To appreciate it, you have to face a challenging 4-hour trail through the forest, with steep and slippery stretches. In other words, you have to be prepared for the adventure.
But the effort is worth it, as it allows you to immerse yourself in one of São Paulo’s most impressive natural settings . The shower falls from the ceiling of the cave, forming a natural shower that surprises even the most experienced PETAR guides.
Despite the name “shower”, it is not possible to bathe in the Temimina Cave shower. The measure is designed to protect the natural heritage and prevent possible accidents to tourists. But don’t worry: the view alone is worth it!

How did the overhead shower come about?
The “natural shower” is actually a waterfall inside the Temimina Cave, which falls from an opening in the ceiling into the main hall. This type of formation is extremely rare and enchants even the most experienced adventurers with its beauty and exclusivity.
This is the result of thousands of years of water action on the rocks in the area. Rainwater seeps through the earth and gradually digs its way underground. Over time, it finds a gap and falls into the cave hall, forming this beautiful vertical waterfall.
So if you want to see one of the most iconic natural landscapes in São Paulo – perhaps in Brazil and the world – be sure to add the Temimina Cave to your PETAR itinerary. You’ll come back with unmissable stories (and photos)!
