Starting this Saturday, the 6th, São Paulo will have a new feature that should directly impact those who live in São Paulo at night. This is because the four lines operated by the Metro will run 24 hours a day on Saturdays, in an experimental project that will continue until February 2026.
The initiative meets a long-standing demand from passengers, tourists and workers in the entertainment sector and promises to transform night-time mobility in the capital.

How the Metro will operate 24 hours a day on Saturdays
The new operation will allow passengers to board and disembark at all stations on lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver throughout the early hours of Saturday to Sunday.
The service will run from midnight until 4.40am, with trains running at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes, depending on demand. However, as this is a pilot project, there are some particularities:
- No integration with lines operated by concessionaires and CPTM, which will not open at dawn.
- Line 2-Green will have single-track operation on two sections:
- Vila Madalena ↔ Clínicas
- Sacomã ↔ Vila Prudente
- Line 15-Silver, on this first weekend, will operate with free PAESE buses due to tests with the new fleet.
In addition, during the night, ticket offices will be closed, but passengers will be able to buy tickets at self-service machines, WhatsApp, Google Wallet or using physical credit and debit cards by approximation.

Why was the decision made?
According to the Government of the State of São Paulo, the initiative is in direct dialogue with the resumption of the post-pandemic movement. In 2020, the network recorded an 83% drop in the number of passengers. Today, it is already operating at around 80% of pre-pandemic demand, transporting around 3 million people a day.
Over the last few years, the Metro has been strengthening its presence at major events such as Carnival, The Town, Lollapalooza, Só Track Boa, NFL, Cena 2K, among others, attracting new users and showing that the system is ready to serve São Paulo’s leisure.
