Shooting stars are one of the most impressive celestial phenomena, dotting the night landscape with illuminated trails. And to our delight, in the month of July we’ll be able to see not just one, but two meteor showers at their peak!
In other words, it’s high time for astronomy enthusiasts to get ready for the show. That’s why we’ve brought you everything you need to know about this celestial phenomenon, which will transform the sky into a true show of nature.
Enjoy two peak meteor showers in July!
According to the Royal Greenwich Observatory, there will be 12 shooting star appearances in 2025. Of these, three will be active during the month of July. “But weren’t there only two?” you might be thinking. We’ll explain.
The first phenomenon will be Alpha Capricornides, which begins on July 3 and remains active until August 15. Its peak viewing, i.e. the moment when we will be able to see the greatest number of meteors, will be on July 30. On this day, the shower will peak at 5 meteors per hour.
In addition, July 30 will also be the peak viewing date for Delta Aquáridas, in which we’ll be able to see 25 meteors per hour. The phenomenon begins on July 12 and continues until August 23.
Finally, one of the world’s most famous meteor showers , the Perseids, begin on July 17. However, its peak will be on August 12, when it will reach an impressive 150 meteors per hour!
In other words, although the phenomenon starts in July, we’ll have to wait until next month to see its peak. And then it will still be active until August 24.
How do you observe shooting stars?
Most meteor showers are visible to the naked eye, without the need for telescopes. But before you place your order for shooting stars, you need to be aware of one detail: you need to find a dark place to admire them.
So the best tip is to find a secluded spot, away from the lights of the big city. Fortunately, the interior of São Paulo still has many towns with clear skies where you can appreciate the mysteries of the universe without barriers. How about taking the opportunity to get away?
