The 2026 Polenta Festival is coming to the interior of São Paulo, bringing the best versions of this Italian delicacy. Held annually in Piracicaba, 155 kilometers from the capital, the festival celebrates the Trentino-Tyrolean culture of the Santa Olímpia neighborhood, founded by immigrants from that region of Europe.
The 29th edition of the festival takes place from July 24 to 26 and will offer free admission to everyone. It’s the perfect opportunity for anyone looking for a complete cultural and culinary weekend experience, combining history, good food, and fun for the whole family!
Polenta Festival Celebrates the Traditions of Santa Olímpia
In the late 19th century, the interior of São Paulo welcomed large waves of European immigrants to replace the former slave labor force. Piracicaba was no exception. The city’s coffee plantations welcomed numerous families from Trentino and Tyrol, regions that belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and are now part of Italy and Austria.
In 1892, these immigrants purchased the Santa Olímpia Farm, which gave rise to the current Tyrolean Colony of Piracicaba. More than 130 years later, the neighborhood still preserves its origins in its architecture, traditional cuisine, and residents who keep the Tyrolean dialect of their ancestors alive.
The Santa Olímpia Polenta Festival began in 1991 to commemorate the centennial of Italian immigration. Today, it is one of Piracicaba’s premier Italian cultural festivals, drawing around 25,000 people each year.
Why visit this festival in the interior of São Paulo?
The Polenta Festival is organized by the community itself, most of whose members are descendants of the first immigrants. This ensures the authenticity of the celebration, which features original recipes, music, dances, and traditional costumes from the Trentino-Tyrolean culture.
The main attraction is, without a doubt, the polenta-based cuisine: there’s fried polenta, grilled polenta (brustolada), and polenta served with various sauces and meats. Each edition serves an average of five metric tons of food! In addition, visitors can enjoy dishes such as sausage, couscous, and other delicacies on the menu, always paired with a good wine.
The cultural program features performances by folk groups, bands, and choirs, as well as the traditional presentation of the queen and princess of the 2026 Polenta Festival. For those who wish to experience the religious tradition, there is also the festival’s opening Mass, held on the very first day. In other words: there are attractions for every taste!
