In October, the sky offers us a real astronomical show. During the month, we can admire the Supermoon, the “comet of the century” and a meteor shower with debris from the famous Halley’s Comet. If you also love this kind of outing, check out our tips on places to observe the Supermoon and the other phenomena that will be happening above us.
Carmo Park
With 1.5 million square meters, Parque do Carmo is a great choice. Even with the many cherry and eucalyptus trees scattered around, there is still plenty of open ground to watch the sky.
At the moment, the park is open until 8pm. Even so, from dusk until the gates close, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the Supermoon.
📍 Avenida Afonso de Sampaio e Sousa, 951 – Itaquera
Sunset Square
As its name suggests, this square is popular with those who want to see the sunset. However, those who see the star also see the satellite. Bring a towel to sit on and a friend to share the moment.
📍 Praça Coronel Custódio Fernandes Pinheiro, 334 – Alto de Pinheiros
Ibirapuera Park
It sounds obvious, but it’s worth mentioning on the list of places to watch the Supermoon. São Paulo’s most popular park is a great, democratic place to enjoy the phenomenon. Extensive, there’s enough space to take the whole family and still maintain social distancing from other groups.
And unlike Parque do Carmo, Ibira is open until midnight, so it’s the perfect opportunity for visitors to enjoy the giant moon for longer.
📍 Avenida Pedro Álvares Cabral, no number – Vila Mariana
Lapa Lookout
Finally, we recommend Mirante da Lapa, a more “underground” destination. Off the beaten track of São Paulo’s main viewpoints, it’s perhaps a quieter option for enjoying the Supermoon and, at the same time, drooling at the sight of the vast horizon lying ahead.
📍 Rua Cerro Corá, 1223 – Vila Ida
