The Consolação Literary Passage is a secret hidden between Avenida Paulista and Rua da Consolação, attracting São Paulo residents of all ages to unravel its mysteries. Created in 1970, the underground tunnel runs between the sidewalks of the Belas Artes cinema and the Riviera Bar, bringing together culture, literature and urban art in the center of São Paulo.
The site is managed by the Via Libris Association, which has brought new life to the place since 2005. As well as an intense cultural program, the passage houses a bookshop full of classic and modern titles capable of enchanting any literature lover.

Have you ever visited the Passagem Literária da Consolação?
As you go down the stairs of this “secret passage”, you’ll find a lot of graffiti that colors the entire walls. The drawings add an even more artistic touch to the experience, which is already part of the alternative itinerary in the center of São Paulo.
The highlight, however, is the underground bookshop in the Passagem Literária da Consolação. There used books gain new life in the hands of curious and avid readers. In addition, the space’s program includes art and photography exhibitions, intimate concerts and performances that keep the space alive and kicking.

How about adding this underground visit to your agenda?
According to the organization, around 3,000 São Paulo residents pass through the Passagem Literária da Consolação every day. The space is open from Monday to Friday, from 10am to 7pm, and on Saturdays, from 11am to 7pm.
To make the most of your visit, it’s worth checking out the upcoming exhibitions and events taking place there. All you have to do is check out the week’s schedule on the passage’s social networks, which publish all the updates.
