Olivier Anquier is famous in Brazil for his career in gastronomy, television, and entrepreneurship. Now, the Franco-Brazilian chef is launching a new phase of his journey: the Anquier Archive, a cultural space near Praça da República.
The initiative transforms memories and photographs collected over the years into exhibitions for the public. Through personal items, documents, and travel accounts, the public will be able to discover a more intimate side of the chef, beyond the kitchen and the camera lens.
Admission is free, and the venue promises to be yet another hub for entertainment and the democratization of culture in downtown São Paulo. Check it out!
Travel as Memory on Display
The first exhibition at the Anquier Archive in São Paulo will be “Olivier’s Diary: 20 Years Discovering Brazil.” The collection features 55 original photographs taken by the chef over two decades of travel for the show “Olivier’s Diary, ” which has been airing on GNT since 1998.
Visitors will be able to discover landscapes, cities, and people the TV host has encountered throughout Brazil. Many of the records capture places off the traditional tourist trail, offering a deep dive into the cuisine and daily life of small communities.
Arquivo Anquier: a new cultural hub in downtown São Paulo
Scheduled to open on September 16, the space will function as a dynamic collection. The opening exhibition is merely the “first archive revealed,” kicking off a full program of exhibitions and cultural activities.
Following the conclusion of “Olivier’s Diary: 20 Years Discovering Brazil, ” the photographs and objects on display will be offered at both an in-person and virtual auction. Among the items is the famous green Volkswagen Beetle that accompanied Olivier Anquier on much of his travels throughout the country.
In addition to the exhibition’s significance in the chef’s career, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to Missão Belém, an organization that provides shelter to vulnerable individuals in downtown São Paulo.
