The MASP open-air space, which is under the famous museum building, is one of the most important cultural spots on Avenida Paulista. After all, the place is the stage for various demonstrations, performances by street artists and, of course, the famous Paulista Antiques Fair.
Starting next year, we can expect even more incredible events to take place there. That’s because, this November, SP City Hall – which managed the site until then – granted the free span to MASP, so that the museum will be responsible for the space’s artistic programming. Find out more below!
MASP’s free span will host even more cultural activities in 2025
According to the museum’s management, the new concession, which will run for 20 years, will make it possible for MASP’s cultural activities to occupy its open space. This way, the public will be able to enjoy temporary exhibitions, workshops and major events, all of which will be free of charge.
The move comes close on the heels of the inauguration of MASP’s new annex building, which is scheduled to take place in March 2025. This is the Dumont-Adams Building, next to the main building, which will become part of the museum complex after renovation. It will include a new restaurant, two galleries and five exhibition spaces.
What about the Antiques Fair?
Every Sunday for over 40 years, the MASP open-air space has hosted the Paulista Antiques Fair. What will happen to the fair when the concession changes?
In an interview with CBN São Paulo, MASP’s Director of Experience and Communication, Paulo Vicelli, explains that the plans are to use the space for other events, at least initially.
Since this year, as a result of the renovation of the open-air space, the Fair has moved its activities to Mário Covas Park. It is therefore possible that it will continue to occupy new locations in the city, rather than returning to MASP.
