The Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano Foundation is one of those essential visits for those who want to take a break from the routine and enjoy a different weekend in São Paulo. Located in Morumbi, the former residence of the Americano family has large gardens, a collection of famous works from the history of Brazil and a charming tea room, making it a benchmark for art and leisure in the São Paulo capital.
Have you ever visited the Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano Foundation?
The modernist house was built in the 1950s and was home to the Americano couple for 20 years. After Maria Luisa passed away, Oscar decided to turn the property into a museum, thus creating the Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano Foundation.
In addition to the historic property, the museum also houses a large collection of Brazilian history. There are works of art by renowned artists such as Portinari and Di Cavalcantti, as well as historic furniture, tapestries and silverware. The mansion also has a TeaRoom, whose decoration seems to transport us to the last century.
The estate’s gardens are 75,000 square meters of preserved Atlantic Forest, with native trees such as brazilwood and jacarandas. It’s the perfect place to breathe fresh air, take a peaceful walk and contemplate nature in the heart of the Morumbi neighborhood.
