The future Line 20-Rosa of the metro, which promises to connect São Paulo to Santo André, is beginning to take its first steps. After years of waiting, the São Paulo government this month approved the expropriation of areas in the ABC region for the construction of the line, as well as an initial study into the potential locations of future stations.
The project for a subway line linking the capital to the ABC has been in the works for more than 10 years, and now it could finally come to fruition. The branch line is expected to serve up to 1.3 million people a day, making it easier for residents of the metropolitan region who work in the capital.

When will Line 20-Rosa be inaugurated?
The first project for a line between São Paulo and the ABC dates back to 2013, but now Line 20-Rosa is no longer a dream and is beginning to take shape. The initial studies are expected to be completed by 2026, when the government will issue a call for tenders to choose the company responsible for the work.
According to the state government, construction of Line 20-Rosa should begin in 2027, with the first stretch, between Santa Marina and Saúde, opening by 2030. The second section, which will reach ABC Paulista, is expected to open between 2035 and 2040.

Where will the metro pass through in Santo André?
Line 20-Rosa will connect Lapa, in the West Zone of São Paulo, to the municipality of Santo André. The official route has not yet been decided, but it is known that it will have 24 stations and be about 30 kilometers long, serving important districts of the capital.
In São Paulo, some of the planned stations are Santa Marina, which will also serve Line 6-Orange , Vila Romana, Fradique Coutinho, Moema, Indianópolis and Saúde. Along the way, the metro will pass through São Bernardo do Campo, at the Taboão-Paulicéia and Rudge Ramos stations.
In Santo André, the state government is considering building stations near the Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa, Rua Afonsina and between Rua Amaral Gurgel and Rua Basílio Machado. In addition, Line 20-Rosa will end at Santo André Station, which will have a connection with CPTM Line 10-Turquesa and bus terminals.
