The jabuticaba season at Maeda Park has already begun! Located in Itu, in the interior of São Paulo, the complex invites visitors to pick the fruit directly from 700 trees in an orchard with more than 10,000 trees planted.
The harvest is open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., less than 100 kilometers from the capital of São Paulo. In other words, you don’t even have to travel far to enjoy this picturesque experience combining leisure and gastronomy.
Jabuticaba season at Maeda Park: from planting to sustainable production
The orchard began in 2019 under the care of André Maeda, the park’s founder. Since then, management has prioritized sustainability and the reduction of chemicals, adopting organic fertilization practices, herbicide-free weed control, and the use of biological products for pest control.
It is estimated that visitors will harvest up to 30 metric tons of jabuticabas throughout the year. Any fruit not consumed will be turned into artisanalliqueurs and jams, which will be available for purchase at Parque Maeda itself.
In addition to the orchard experience, the jabuticaba is renowned for its high nutritional value. After all, the fruit provides fiber and vitamin C and is low in calories, benefiting cardiovascular health and metabolism.
How does a visit to the Maeda Park orchard work?
The orchard tour costs R$25 per person, which includes all-you-can-eat fruit on-site. But if you’d like to take some home, don’t worry: just buy a bowl for R$15.
The harvest is just one of the many attractions at Maeda Park, where admission starts at R$ 110. In addition to the jabuticaba trees, the complex offers horseback riding, ATV rides, a miniature train, pedal boats, a cable car, and a water park, as well as attractions such as the Japanese Garden and the Water Wheels.
The self-service restaurant offers hundreds of options, including hot dishes, salads, and Japanese cuisine. Finally, for longer stays, it’s worth visiting Pousada Maeda, whose cottages and apartments even feature privatepools.
